The star-shaped Goryokaku will be illuminated with 2,000 lights in an event called “A Dream of Goryokaku Star.” This creates a stunning and magical scenery. You can walk through Goryokaku and also view it from the Goryokaku Tower.
Every year, an event is held where the star-shaped Goryokaku is illuminated, and the lights can be viewed from the adjacent tower. This event takes place from December through February. The illuminations are lit from sunset until 7 PM, and it is very popular, so the parking lot is often full during this time. Therefore, it’s advisable to find parking nearby and walk to the event.
Additionally, since the illuminations only run until 7 PM, it’s recommended to arrive early. Access to the observation deck of the tower is via elevator, which can get very crowded. Wait times can be 40 minutes to over an hour.
