Why Hokkaido’s fishes are so tasty?

Hokkaido is blessed with abundant fishing grounds thanks to its proximity to the Japan Sea, Pacific Ocean, and Okhotsk Sea. The Oyashio Current flows from southwest to northeast in the Pacific Ocean, rich in plankton that nourish fish populations. In winter, drift ice from Russia appears along the east coast of Hokkaido in the Okhotsk Sea, bringing nutrient-rich waters that further support marine life.

The cold and turbulent waters contribute to fish developing higher fat content, resulting in firm and flavorful meat.
