Motoizaka Slope(基坂)

Motoisaka slope
This place is written as [基坂] in Japanese.

Motoizaka slope is located in Bay Area, the westward of Hakodate city. This is the base point for measuring a distance, so that this slope was named ‘Motoi-zaka’. ‘Motoi’ means “base” and “zaka” is “slope”. Usually we say “Saka” as slope. Both of them are the same meaning.

There are many sight spots of Hakodate around the top of the slope such as Old Public Hall of Hakodate Ward, Old Soma Residence, the former British Consulate and so on.

From the top, you can see so nice view of Hakodate port and city as well. The Motomachi Park Area around Motoizaka slope is supposed to be lighted up from the end of November to February for Hakodate Winter Festival. You can enjoy a romantic night in Hakodate.
