Shin Hongo(1905–1980) is a representing Japanese sculptor after WWII. He inherited his teacher, Kotaro Takamura. His style is similar to Rodin, French sculptor. The museum is dedicated to him and his achievement. The museum has two buildings. One of the buildings was used to be his house and a gallery. The main museum exhibits Hongo’s works and special exhibition. The memorial museum exhibits about 400 sculptures and 700 pictures by Shin Hongo. There are also plaster cast models, tools and furniture. The family donated his works leaved to the city of Sapporo after his death in 1980, 74years old. This is a small museum but worth visiting and beautiful location.

  • Take a Tozai Line to Nishi 28-Chome.
  • Take a JR bus Yamanote line(循環西No.20 JIngu-mae-sakimawari神宮前先回り) to The Sapporo Museum of sculpture.
  • 10 minute walk.

Permament Exhibition

Adults: ¥300(group: ¥250) University and high-school students: ¥200(group: ¥100)

A Group needs more than 10 people. Admission is free for the elementary & junior high school student and physically challenged and persons over 65.
