Hakodate is located in the southern-most tip of Hokkaido and the third largest city in the northern island. Its geographical features presents an amazing night view from Mt.Hakodate. Hakodate is a old historical port city and one of the significant base of the fishing industry in Japan. In 1859, Hakodate Port was opened as one of the first international trading ports in Japan, along with Yokohama and Nagasaki. As a result, Hakodate is a mixed town with west and east culture. There are many churches and temples attracting not only domestic tourists also foreign tourists.
